Homeroom News:
Holiday Gift Giving
As your child may have told you, I have a different twist on Christmas gifts. In the true spirit of the season, I encourage the students to give a home-made gift that they have participated in the making thereof. The cost of materials is to be not more than $3, due to the bad economy. This cost does not include items you already have (maybe you already have the paints, crochet hooks, thread, or some beads left over from a previous craft). All gifts are to be labeled "To a Boy" if you have a son or "To a Girl" if you have a daughter and are to be delivered by Dec. 16th (excepting food gifts which may be delivered on Dec. 18th)
In the past, some of the gifts given were:
homemade wallet made of Carhart material
snow globe made from a round jar with a snow scene, water, glycerine and glitter
a CD burned with favorite holiday music
cookies baked and delivered in a festive contianer
homemade ornaments of varying materials
hand-painted ornaments
beaded jewelry made from craft beads
Let your imagination and your child's talents guide you. Each year, I am so excited by the enormous level of talent and creativity in CDR families in the wonderful gifts they make. For inspiration, I suggest Walmart's craft section, Hobby Lobby (there is one in Brannon Crossing), or Michaels (in Lexington).
Other ideas include:
brownie or cookie mixes in a decorative jar with the directions and wet ingredients list attached
sewn, knitted, or crocheted items
hand-painted items
